THE EFFECTS OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR TO THE SCHOOL PERFORMANCE OF GRADE - 4 AND GRADE - 5 PUPILS IN CABANGLASAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Research Methodology

Respondents of the Study

The method that used in choosing the respondents was purposive sampling picking all the cases that meet the criterion.  The researcher chose purposive sampling., considering that the population of respondents was small and there were lots to consider on securing the respondents participation. Furthermore, some of the teachers qualified to be the respondents could not be reached for comments for some other reasons.

The Research Instrument

The researcher used the questionnaire in gathering the data to determine the correlation between the factors associated with disruptive behavior and its effects to the school performance of Grade IV and V pupils in Cabanglasan District. The questionnaire as designed by the researcher, included items from books, encyclopedia, magazines, unpublished thesis, informal interview and observations. The questionnaire consisted of several parts,    Part 1 –  aimed to gather  data from the teachers,  their name and the school where they are teaching. Part II – information about the pupil or pupils who have disruptive behavior and that includes their performance at school, their family and economic background.  Part III - gathered data on the factors associated with disruptive behavior of the pupils such as overt inattentiveness, aggressiveness, misbehavior, tardiness and laziness.

Data Gathering Procedure

Having found the questionnaire valid and reliable, the researcher informed her co-teachers and asks their cooperation with regards to her study. She also approaches her principal and or the District In charge of Cabanglasan about her study that will be conducted. After the consensus of conformation among the respondents, the researcher administered the questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered to the respondents as the subject of the study on the (1st week of November).   The retrieval of  the questionnaire was done on the ( 2nd week of November). The retrieval of the questionnaire was 100%.

Scoring Procedure:

Instructions were given to guide the teachers in accomplishing the questionnaire.   They checked the appropriate column, indicated the choices following a five point scale to show the level of disruptive behavior affecting the school performance.

Statistical Treatment

In the analysis of the data of the study, the researcher employed the following statistical tools.

Frequency and Percentage.   This was used to determine the demographic profile of the Grade IV and V in Cabanglasan District in terms of the following     a) gender, b) age, c) educational attainment of the parents, d) family economic background e) number of children in the classroom.

Average Weighted Mean. This was used to find out the extent of factors associated with Disruptive behavior among the Grade IV and V pupils.

The t-test was used to test the significant difference of the extent on the effect on school performance of factors associated with disruptive behavior when grouped according to  a) gender, b) age, c) educational attainment of the parents, d) family economic background e) number of children in the classroom.
